Textile Learning Center (TLC)
Visit our hands-on textile fun place for children-of-all-ages, located near our Education Center classrooms, after you tour the main museum or as the place to head for first. Intended to entertain and engage both young and old, you will find a variety of activities to try. Our doll house and “knitted farmyard” provide endless playtime, particularly for those youthful interior decorators among us. Find plenty of books for the youngest who might enjoy the tickle monster [tickle glove included], and for young adult [Barbie Mix and Match, or Amigurumi World – Seriously Cute Crochet], to adults who might enjoy the latest knitting jokes or knitting life applications [Zen and the Art of Knitting]. Try weaving on our floor loom or rigid heddle loom. Figure out how a spinning wheel works by turning its parts. Look at textile fibers under the microscope, or try your luck at Mission Runway on the computer (etc.) Stuffed animals and learning toys abound, and try on fun outfits in our dress-up corner. And don’t leave empty handed – our crafting table will have several textiley things to make-and-take, which are often related to our changing exhibits themes. 2nd Sunday Story Hours are also held here, hosted by our mascot, Lulu the Lamb.

For ages 3-6 years old
Please join us for our NEW monthly children’s program, Learning with Lulu, at 2 PM on second-Sundays of the month! Our museum mascot, Lulu the Lamb, and friends will take you on a journey to new experiences through literature and hands-on creativity right in the Museum’s play area. Children ages 3-6 will explore literature, culture, geography, and history, while at the same time reinforcing the Museum’s basic foundations of textiles with topics such as the rich silks of China, and colorful cloth of Africa, through hearing stories and making crafts. Free for museum members, non-members with paid admission, and those only attending the story hour – donations appreciated.
