Summer Fun in the City

Textile Journey through the Centuries

In this 5 day program experience a century a day! Take a fascinating journey from the Native American’s of the 17th Century to the Modern Day 21st Century, as you visit our core exhibit in the Museum. Participate in relevant fiber arts, such as hand sewing, crocheting, weaving, felting, and braiding. In addition, you will learn how to use a sewing machine, make your own no-bake snack and play games that were popular during the different time periods we learn about. Boys & Girls suggested ages 8-11 years.

Week1: July 9-13 (register by June 25)
Week2:  August 6-10 (register by July 23)
Hours: 9:30am - 4pm
Cost: $125 per week
Single days option available: $25 per day

Fashion Fun Workshop

Summer 2012 Program - Fashion Fun Workshop

Did you ever want a skirt for yourself and your favorite fashion doll (American Girl, Barbie or other)? In this workshop you can design and sew matching skirts for yourself and your favorite doll, attend a fashion show luncheon (you bring lunch, we provide atmosphere) and enjoy a guided tour thru the museum.  Suggested  for ages 8-11.

July 25 (register by July 11) and August 15 (register by August 1)
Hours: 10am-2pm

Pillow Face Workshop

Use fabric to add bright eyes, cute nose, and happy mouth to a 12’X16’ pillow form to create a Pillow Face Buddy to love or to give to someone special.  Learn to use cut outs, appliques, and different sewing techniques to complete this pillow. Suggested for ages 6-11.

July 26 (register by July 12) and August 16 (register by August 2)
Hours: 10am-12noon
Cost: $15

  • Guided tours specifically for kids of the new exhibition: Homefront and Battlefield, opening June 30, 2012 (call ahead to schedule)
  • New activities in the Textile Learning Center related to Homefront and Battlefield
  • Self guided scavenger hunts through the main exhibit: Textile Revolution

Insufficient Enrollment Policy: All summer programs must meet a minimum enrollment to be held. Participants will be notified 14 days before the summer program is scheduled to begin if the program has been cancelled due to insufficient enrollment.
