Textile Learning Center (TLC)

The Textile Learning Center is an interactive learning center for people of all ages (young children should be accompanied by an adult.) Try hands-on activities and crafts, and play with our textile-related toys. The TLC is open during Museum hours. No additional charge beyond Museum admission.

Family Fun in the Textile Learning Center:

Curl up in the reading corner, learn to spin and weave, or check-out our activity centers. The TLC is designed to add to the hands-on experience for families with children.

What You Will Find in the "TLC":

  • Weaving and Spinning:  Learn to weave on our floor looms, which are labeled for easy use, and staff are available to give you a weaving “mini-lesson.” Try using a drop spindle, too.
  • Reading Rack:  Lots of reading selections for toddlers up through adults, from “puppet” books, to the latest textile-themed novel, clever craft book, or knitting jokes compendium.
  • Special Exhibit-Themed Crafts:  Changing craft activities and displays relate to the Museum’s special changing exhibits.
  • Dress-up items
  • Doll house, stuffed animals, and toys
  • Activity Boxes:  Check out a game or craft box for use in the TLC.
  • Higher Tech:  View fibers through a microscope, and check out our computer station with design games, access to our website & online collections catalogue, and more.
  • And more……..

Special Exhibit-Themed Scavenger Hunts:

Choose from a variety of themed scavenger hunt sheets available in the TLC, and see if you can find the pictured objects as you wend your way through the Museum. Take them home as a remembrance of what you saw at the ATHM.
