The American Textile History Museum in Lowell tells America’s story through the art, history and science of textiles. The Museum is temporarily closed to the public and will be reopening in the fall with a newly renovated – “Textile Revolution: An Exploration through Space and Time” – an interactive exhibit that allows visitors to explore textiles through the past, present and future.

“The American Textile History Museum provides a unique opportunity in the Merrimack Valley for people to learn about and enjoy an industry that is so instrumental in the history of our region and our country,” said Joseph Bevilacqua, MVCC President. “They are a shining example of cultural tourism, and they do all that with a staff of 15 people. They’re amazing.”

As part of the recognition, ATHM also received a citation from the Massachusetts House of Representatives and a Certificate of Special Recognition from the U.S. House of Representatives.

ATHM Executive Director Jim Coleman said the recognition was particularly meaningful as the Museum is investing more than $1.5 million into a complete renovation of the museum exhibits, providing a new and enhanced visitor experience.

“We are a small organization, but we give our visitors a big experience, opening their eyes to the fascinating world of textiles, from jacquard looms to baseball construction to the use of plastic bottles to make our clothing,” Mr. Coleman said. “It’s an experience you won’t find anywhere else in this part of the country, and we’re excited to provide that in Lowell and the Merrimack Valley.”
