As part of Lowell¹s citywide September 11 observance, the public is invited to participate in a special Commemorative Observance at the American Textile History Museum starting at 12 noon. Following the service, the public is invited to view the first museum exhibition of Pentagon Quilts. The program includes an invocation by Rev. David W. Malone, pastor of the Eliot Church in Lowell and remarks by Lowell¹s Mayor Rita M. Mercier and Major General Craig P. Weston, Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass. Following the playing of the National Anthem by the U.S. Coast Guard Ceremonial Band, the program concludes with a fly over salute by the Massachusetts Air National Guard 104th Fighter Wing from Barnes Air National Guard Base, Westfield, Mass. Museum hours are extended to 8 p.m. and admission is free to all that day.

The Pentagon Quilts exhibit will be on display at the American Textile History Museum from September 2 through September 13. This special exhibit features 29 expressions of caring and comfort created by quilters and school groups across the nation and abroad that were given spontaneously to the Pentagon in the aftermath of September 11. The Museum is the only site in New England for viewing the majority of the Pentagon quilt collection during the one-year anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Free admission September 11 and Thursday evenings from 4 – 8 pm. Free admission for children Sept. 2 -13 thanks to the generosity of the Greater Merrimack Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau, The Lowell Sun, and the Greater Lowell Community Foundation.
